BCHS Emerging Leaders Program Application
Thank you for your interest in the BCHS Emerging Leaders Program. Participation in the program will help you develop capabilities and leadership behaviours to meet current and future challenges, drive innovation and create a psychologically safe and effective work environment.
The program includes 20 hours of classroom time plus mentorship and coaching opportunities. To consolidate and demonstrate learning, participants will also deliver a short presentation to a leadership group at the BCHS. This presentation will highlight a tool, strategy or model from the course and explore how it could be used to support a change or project within your department or the organization.
Success in the program will also involve engaging in activities that support your learning such as self-development inventories, reflection, self-directed learning, coaching and mentoring. The total anticipated time commitment is a minimum of 22 hours.
To be fairly assessed on your suitability for the program, please complete this BCHS Emerging Leaders Application Form on the BCHS website. As part of the application process, you will be asked to provide the following:
- One letter of reference from a leader at the BCHS, which speaks to your leadership potential, achievements, work ethic, skills, strengths and attributes. Email references will suffice.
- A one-page summary of why you want to participate in the program, highlighting your skills and abilities and your commitment to ongoing learning and development. Please also share what you do on an ongoing basis to contribute to a positive culture at work, how you demonstrate BCHS’ mission, vision and values, and anything else you feel is relevant.
These are the minimum requirements for entry into the program:
- Two years experience at the BCHS or five years experience in healthcare
- Good standing as a BCHS employee: all required learning tasks completed, no active performance improvement plans in place, regular attendance
- Direct supervisor approval
- BCHS Building Bridges Program completion (formerly known as the Preceptor Program)
- Availability to attend all scheduled sessions in person (see below)
Winter/Spring 2026 Session Dates (all sessions run 8:30am -12:30pm):
- Session 1- February 11, 2026
- Session 2- March 5, 2026
- Session 3- April 2, 2026
- Session 4- May 7, 2026

After completing the application form, please make sure you upload all relevant documents and hit ‘submit.’ Once the documents have been received, the package will be screened to determine if the above criteria have been met, and a list of candidates will be forwarded to the Emerging Leaders Core Committee for final selection of a maximum of 10 participants per cohort.
Should you not be approved, a member of the Organizational Development team will reach out to share feedback and recommendations for further development. You are eligible to apply for future cohorts and this is an opportunity to collaborate with your leader to explore and minimize any gaps and set yourself up for success in the future.
