Peer Support Program

The BCHS Peer Support Program has been developed to promote resiliency, wellness and coping amongst employees, leaders, medical staff, volunteers and learners. The priority of the program is the offer of support from people who understand the distinct culture and challenges of our work at BCHS, because they too are staff.

The team is made up of clinical, non-clinical and physician peers across disciplines and departments within the organization. The volunteer peers receive specialized training in mental health, communication skills, trauma and crisis intervention. They learn approaches to providing individual support to fellow colleagues who are in crisis or are experiencing personal, mental health or workplace issues. Peer support is not a substitute for counselling, and EAP services through Homewood Health are still available to staff as needed.

Important:
We ask that nominations be brought forward by leaders or colleagues who identify a staff member who demonstrates the qualities sought by the Peer Support Program.

It is incumbent upon the candidate to inform their direct supervisor of their application to be a volunteer with the Peer Support Program. We only accept nominations, not direct applications.
